I have been wanting to churn out a shaving soap for quite some time since the hubby shaves pretty regularly and almost always has a reaction to commercial shaving foams. We have been using stuff from The Body Shop which doesn’t result in a razor burn for him but since we ran out (and prices have gone up), he has resorted to using commercial shaving foams which hasn’t been very kind to his skin.
I read that shaving soaps require some form of clay to give it some slip (so that the shave is smooth) and that it should be high in lather and not just any type of lather but creamy, small and compact lather. Most serious shaving soap formulations out there shy away from any kind of olive oil and use stearic acid but I am on the lookout for something that is soothing and moisturising as well, not just loaded with bubbles and more bubbles.
The scent isn’t all that strong which is pretty much in line with my shop’s policy – we’re not out to be the next LUSH or anything similar. I like something that is gentle on my nose too plus I use pure essential oils which require some editing – less is more, I feel.
This current batch is now awaiting testers and I’m looking more for men than women (unless you shave your legs nearly every week). If you’re keen and a non-electric shaver user, please drop me a note at mabel.savonniere[at]gmail.com.0 likes
